Martin Bean has been announced as RMIT University’s new Vice-Chancellor.
Bean was born in Melbourne and is the Vice-Chancellor of The Open University—a university that allows its students to study by correspondence and markets itself as the largest university in the United Kingdom.

In an email to staff, RMIT Chancellor Dr Ziggy Switkowski praised Bean and called him a “global leader” in the higher education sector.
“He is an executive with strong relationships within the higher education sector and industry and will bring a wealth of commercial and operational experience to the RMIT community,” he said.
“In recent years he has successfully steered The Open University through regulatory changes within the UK system and is perfectly positioned to lead RMIT through the changing regulatory landscape currently being shaped by the Federal Government.”
Bean will take on the role of Vice-Chancellor in February 2015.
